Review The Magicians (The Magicians #1) by Lev Grossman

Note: The Magicians is like... if a fan obsessed with The Chronicles of Narnia found out that magic was real and was whisked away to college HP style.

Quentin Coldwater is a self-absorbed boy who fails to mature and manages to hurt those who love him most. It was like a marathon, with Quentin showing me the many ways in which he could disappoint me. Typical preppy boy stuff I guess. Aside from Quentin's perfectly flawed character, the book was really great and I could barely put it down. There were plenty of moments in which I laughed, was completely absorbed, and completely heartbroken (and there was plenty of wtf-ing).
If you're looking for something fun and uplifting, with HP-esque growth and friendship, turn away friends, turn away. The Magicians is nothing like Harry Potter but it was still a great read.

5/5 stars
